Department Awards Students with Best CGPA

The Department of Pure and Applied Zoology, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has rewarded students with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in each level of the Department.

According to the Head of Department, Professor Olufemi Sam-Wobo, the idea behind the award is to revive the old tradition of the Department and the University as it was done years back.

He said that such gesture is geared towards recognition of hard work among the students and promised that the Department aimed at continuing the tradition henceforth.

He equally charged others to work hard, because there is reward in hard work.

Giving her advice to the students, the Head, Directorate of Public Relations, Dr. (Mrs.) Linda Onwuka thanked the Department for bringing back some of the good old values that had been lost in the University.

She congratulated the winners for their dint of hard work and charged them not to relent on their oars, while she advised all the students to step up their game, academically.

Dr. Onwuka discouraged the students from making money from dubious means, which she said could only give them temporary joy that will not last. Rather, she encouraged hard work in all ramifications, saying, “Hard work doesn’t kill, but makes you better.”

Buttressing Dr. Onwuka’s charge was Professor Olabode Oke who told the students not to let their parents down, but take their studies serious.

Capping the advice from the notable scholars and dignitaries present was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Morenike Dipeolu, who was represented by Professor Adetoun Amubode.

The DVC (A), congratulated the awardees, and encouraged others to step up their standard and meet up with the awardees.

She tasked the students to be determined and be disciplined. While she equally applauded the Department of Pure and Applied Zoology for the initiative and asked them to keep it up.

The awardees are, Toyin Solomon who emerged best among the 300 Level students with CGPA of 4.57; leading the 200 Level students is Rashidat Azeez with CGPA of 4.16 and Oreoluwa Omogbein who emerged best among the 100 Level students with CGPA of 4.74.
