An upcoming motivational Speaker, Mr. Fiyinfoluwa Elegbede, has admonished youths to imbibe the spirit of “it is possible”, in their quest for success.
Mr. Elegbede gave the admonition at a symposium organized by the National Association of Microbiology Students (NAMS), UNAAB Chapter, held at the College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET)’s Auditorium.
Delivering a speech titled “The Force of Intellectual Liberty towards Making a Difference in Life”, Mr. Elegbede encouraged students to imbibe the “possibility mentality” and exhibit leadership attributes in all conducts and endeavours.
According to the Speaker, leaders were not born, but made out of their thirst for wisdom, discipline, diligence, sacrifice and dedication in the pursuit of goals and therefore charged participants to be ready to persevere, “go the extra mile, pay the extra price and take the extra step”, not minding obstacles and challenges.
Mr. Elegbede who is currently undergoing internship with the Directorate of Public Relations, UNAAB, charged students to be community-spirited as according to him, true leaders, selflessly live for the people.
The Speaker however advised youths never to rely on their capacity alone, urging them to be steady in both capacity and character, observing that while capacity can take one to the top, it requires character to sustain the momentum.
Also speaking at the event, Dr. Saka Balogun, an Environmental Microbiologist and Lecturer in the Department, advised the students to take advantage of the many opportunities available in the outside world by subscribing to the fast-evolving technological trend.
The Head of Department, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Afolabi, represented by Prof. (Mrs.) Olufunmilayo Bankole, advised the students to take advantage of the student-lecturer relationship which according to her had for long, been ignorantly untapped.
Reasoning that no one had a monopoly of wisdom, she urged the students to share their challenges with the staff and their various Course Advisers, for them to achieve improved academic performance.
In his closing remarks, the President of the National Association of Microbiology Students (NAMS), Mr. Ganiyu Olaosebikan, appreciated the participants and sponsors, particularly West African Seasoning Products, makers of Ajinomoto, adding that the symposium was the best ever, in the history of the Department.
