Works are currently in top gear on the University Red Goat Kalahari Project at the IFSERAR Farm site in Opeji.
Activities at the Farm received a boost penultimate week when experts from the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) arrived at the Farm and worked for a whole week.
According to the Director, IFSERAR, Professor Segun Osinowo, the experts fenced the barbwires and the chain link, better known as Paddocking.
The Director further disclosed that IFSERAR also took delivery of 1,000 Beles of Hay and Pasture Seeds from NAPRI, preparatory to the take-off of the Kalahari Red Goat Project.
Also speaking, a Senior Research Fellow, Dr. (Mrs.) Iyabo Taiwo informed that Aquaculture and Fisheries’ Research Earth Dam was nearing completion.
She stressed that when completed, the Dam will irrigate University Crop Farms, stocked fish for commercial purpose and supply production ponds.
Speaking in the same vein, a Research Fellow II, Dr. Goke Amole also revealed that plantation will commence on Paddock I and Paddock 2, IFSERAR Farm today (Monday), all things being equal.
According to him, Chloris Gayana will be planted on Paddock I while Stylo-Santhes Hamata species will be sown on Paddock 2.
He said there won’t be any plantation on paddock 3 for now because a natural vegetation known as Andropogon was already growing on it, adding that each of the paddocks had 4 (four) hectares of land.
Meanwhile, the IFSERAR Director has disclosed that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun has released 23 (Twenty-Three) research grants for Teaching and Research staff of the Institute.
