The Executive Director, National Water Resources Institute, Kaduna, Dr. Olusanjo Bamgboye, has expressed concern that the country was still sustained by rain-fed agriculture rather than irrigation.
Dr. Bamgboye raised the concern in an interview with UNAAB Bulletin, during the first Management meeting of the National Water Resources Capacity Building Network (NWRCBN), held in the University recently.
The Executive Director said a shift to irrigation will improve on the nation’s agricultural output, with the capacity to conveniently feed the whole of West Africa.
He however lauded the current initiative of President Goodluck Jonathan for embarking on massive irrigation projects which he said was a good omen for the development of Agriculture in the country.
In the same vein, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), University of Maiduguri, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, has described UNAAB as a peaceful citadel of learning.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, who came for the NWRCBN’s meeting said his University could learn some tricks from UNAAB and as such, the University of Maiduguri will be sending a team to understudy UNAAB in the area of infrastructure.
