The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has held a send-forth party for the 2011/2012 Batch A corps members that served in the University.
Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Director, Establishment Matters (Senior Staff), Mr. Omowon Agbotoba, noted that the occasion was worthwhile as the outgoing corps members had served their fatherland, diligently.
Represented by Mrs. Olufunke Makanjuola, he charged the out-going corps members to be of good behaviour at all times.
Commenting on their experiences, one of them, Mr. Oriloye Emmanuel, described his posting to FUNAAB as God-ordained.
He thanked the leadership of the University, under Prof. Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun for giving them the opportunity to serve.
Mr. Jang Ishaya, from Plateau State, who served in the College of Natural Sciences (COLNAS), revealed that the experience was his first time, to travel down to the Southwest, adding that this part of the country is more peaceful when compared to where he came from.
However, one of the in-coming Batch C corps members, Mr. Paul Adedoyin, who is presently serving with the FUNAAB Radio FM, observed that the University is well-structured, compared to many universities he had visited. “I have learnt work ethics, discipline and comportment”, Paul stated.
Also, Miss. Lela Omo-Ikirodah, currently serving with the Directorate of Public Relations, declared that FUNAAB members of staff had made her feel at home, adding that she is happy serving in the institution.
The outgoing Internal Corper Liaison Officer (ICLO), Mr. Ubong Oko, appreciated the steadfastness of the Vice-Chancellor in making FUNAAB a model University in Nigeria.
Making reference to the great philosopher, John Maxwell, who said, “Leadership is influence and positive leadership is positive influence”, he noted that, the Vice-Chancellor had impacted positively in the life of the University as it is evident in the day-to-day activities of members of staff and students.
He, however, gave some challenges being faced by corps members, in the course of discharging their duties, notably, transportation problems. He said it had been difficult for his colleagues to move down to Odeda Local Government Secretariat, whenever they were observing their Community Development Service (CDS).
He solicited for an increment in the stipends paid to corps members, as this would go a long way in cushioning the effects of the hike in prices of commodities and transportation.
