Nestle Nutrition Institute has added value to the University by donating books to the ‘Nimbe Adedipe Library, for capacity building and empowerment.
The Scientific and External Affairs Manager, Mrs. Chioma Emma-Nwachukwu, who led the Nestle team, said the donation was meant to provide enlightenment on new research findings on Nutrition as well as to help update old publications in the University library.
Mrs. Emma-Nwachukwu disclosed that the Nestle Nutrition Institute is a forum where scientists come together to carry out research and brain storm on nutritional issues while the mother organisation, Nestle Nigeria Plc provided assistance in the area funding.
She noted that Nestle had a long-lasting relationship with FUNAAB and was willing to strengthen the existing relationship.
The Scientific and External Affairs Manager also expressed delight at the tremendous infrastructural development in the University saying, “although, this is my third time in FUNAAB, but my first time in the ‘new’ FUNAAB”.
Appreciating Nestle for its generous donation, the University’s Acting Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Mulikat Salaam noted that the company had been a worthy partner of the University and the Library, in particular.
Dr. Salaam disclosed that the Library has a Unit, dedicated to the former Managing Director and Chief Executive of Nestle Foods Nigeria Plc, Chief Olusegun Osunkeye, for his endowment to the Library.
She, however, observed that not much had been done after the endowment as the University had been solely responsible for its maintenance.
She therefore called for the replacement of the air-conditioners, computers as well as the upgrading of publications in the Unit.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Professor Felix Salako, pointed out that the ‘new’ FUNAAB and all the achievements recorded was as a result of the visionary leadership qualities of the Vice-Chancellor.
He informed that at the just-concluded World Universities’ Webometric Ranking, the University leaped to the 2nd Best University in Nigeria and the 35th in Africa, while assuring that the University would not rest on its oars until it can compete favourably with other international institutions.
Professor Salako enjoined Nestle not to relent on its capacity building efforts, stressing that it remained the way to organizational success.
