The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council, Chief Lawrence Ayinde Olakunle Osayemi, has described the return of the Council by the Visitor to the University, President Goodluck Jonathan, as “God-ordained”.
In a chat with FUNAAB Bulletin, while inspecting ongoing projects alongside other Council Members, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun and his Management team, Chief Osayemi said the return of the Council members was “an act of God and it is marvellous in our sight”.
Besides, the Pro-Chancellor disclosed that aside the spiritual angle, the Visitor to the University attributed their recall to their exceptional performance, revealing that out of 27 Governing Councils in the country, only 18, were returned.
According to Chief Osayemi, the Minister for Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufa’i, wrote a letter to him, informing of the reinstatement of the Council, based on its appreciable performances.
He stressed that while the Council was working round the clock with the Management to take FUNAAB to greater heights before its dissolution, the Chairman said little did he and members realize that they were being monitored from ‘above’.
Chief Osayemi pointed out that the lesson to learn from their reinstatement was that “Wherever you are, whatever you can lay your hands on, just be doing it as if there is no tomorrow, for another opportunity”.
He, on behalf of the Council, thanked the Management, staff, students and the entire members of the University Community for their support and cooperation.
The Pro-Chancellor assured the University Community and other stakeholders that the Council won’t rest on its oars, in its bid to take the University to the next level.
