All is now set for the 2012 Intercollegiate Sports’ Championship and Vice-Chancellor’s Cup, scheduled for Wednesday, April 25 and Thursday, May 17, 2012.
A release, signed by the Director of Sports, Mr. ‘Bayo Oluwatoki, informed that the annual sporting event among students of the various Colleges and Institutes in the University would involve 11 sporting activities, namely: Football, Chess, Volleyball, Basketball, Handball, Hockey, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Squash and Athletics.
Mr. Oluwatoki further noted that the competition was put together as an attempt at promoting psychomotor development, redirecting innate emotional insurgencies toward worthwhile, out-of-classroom activities.
The competition also aimed at creating a conducive forum for healthy g social aggregation, engender ethical balance through adherence to competition rules and regulations.
According to the Director, the College teams that will compete are: the College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC), College of Natural Sciences (COLNAS) and College of Engineering (COLENG).
Others are: the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM), College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM), College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET) and the College of Management Science (COLMAS).
The College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT) and the Institute of Human Resources Development (INHURD) will also be participating in the competition.
The proposed time table for the Inter-Collegiate Sports’ Competition/Vice-Chancellor’s Cup is as follows:
– Monday, 2nd April, 2012: Games publicity begins on Campus
– Tuesday, 3rd April, 2012: Memorandum goes to Colleges along with Athletes registration forms.
– Wednesday, 4th April, 2012: Screening/Selection of Athletes begins in Colleges.
– Wednesday, 11th April, 2012: Drawing of games fixtures,
* Venue: Board room, Directorate of Sports at the Sports Centre
* Time: 2.00pm prompt.
All Colleges Sports’ Representatives are expected to attend.
– Friday, 20th April, 2012 is the Mandatory date of returning registration Forms to the Sports Centre
– Wednesday, 25th April, 2012: Opening Ceremony and First Round Matches
– Saturday, 28th April, 2012: Quarter finals Matches of Ball games/elimination in other Sports
– Wednesday, 2nd May, 2012 FINAL, COLFABBS GAMES (FPY)
9am-11am;11am-1pm: Semifinal of Ball game/ Continuation of other Sports-1pm-3pm: 3pm-5pm
– Wednesday, 9th May, 2012 Finals of other Sports except the Vice Chancellor’s Cup
Saturday, 12th May, 2012:
Hosting of all Track and Field Athletics Events
Venue: Muda Lawal Stadium, Asero, Abeokuta
