The Governing Council, at its 69th Statutory Meeting approved the recommendations from Senate on the naming of “Unity Building Complex” and “Professor Mohammed Yakubu Lecture Theatre”.

Council noted that the naming of the twin buildings, “Unity Building Complex” was borne out of the present administration’s desire for a closer working relationship among the entire University Community, irrespective of tribe, religion, culture and career.

It equally noted that the allocation of offices in the buildings for the use of both academic and non-teaching staff, irrespective of cadre, would ensure full integration of the diversities in the University, for better social and community relationship.

Council approved that the University’s 2,000-capacity Lecture Theatre be named as, “Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Lecture Theatre” in appreciation of the contributions of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, as the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Fund (TETFUND), to the infrastructural and academic development of the University.

Council further noted that the contributions of Professor Yakubu to the educational sector were highly commendable, hence, the desire of the Senate to name the befitting Complex after him, in appreciation of his contribution to the FUNAAB Project.

Council also approved the nomination of Professor F. O. Olasantan of the Department of Horticulture, College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT) as the new Chairman of the University’s Board of Survey.

Professor Olasantan takes over from Dr. Idris Ayinde, whose tenure as Chairman of the Board had expired, after his two-year tenure.

In another development, Council approved Management’s request for the change in nomenclature of the Coordinator, Budget, to Director, Budget and Expenditure Control.

The approval was in line with the restructuring of the Bursary Department into three Directorates, namely: Treasury; Final Accounts and College Finances; and Expenditure Control; with each Directorate, operating under a Director.

Council agreed with the reasoning that the policy was targeted at placing the Bursary Department in enhanced positions for improved operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Council, therefore, subsequently approved the change in the nomenclature of the contract appointment of Mr. E. O. Oloruntoba, from that of Coordinator of Budget, to Director of Budget and Expenditure Control.
