Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has appointed the Dean of the University’s College of Natural Sciences (COLNAS), Professor Tope Popoola, as member, Governing Council of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye.
Professor Popoola’s appointment came barely a month after he was voted as Senate Representative on the Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
Governor Amosun, had on Thursday, April 5, 2012 inaugurated the Council and charged members to help rebuild the ailing University.
The Council, which has Dr. Segun Oshin as Chairman, is to serve a 4-year Term, from the date of its inauguration.
Responding to his appointment, Prof. Popoola described it as an act of God and “another confirmation that the FUNAAB’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun is not just building structures, but he’s building people too”.
It would be recalled that Professor Popoola was member of the Governing Council, Ogun State Polytechnic between 1997 and 1999 and two-time Ogun State Commissioner for Special Duties and Agriculture, respectively.
Checks revealed that the reconstitution of the OOU Governing Council is the outcome of Government White Paper on the State Visitation Panel, headed by FUNAAB’s Director of the Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), Professor Segun Osinowo.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun with other members of the University Community have been congratulating Professor Popoola for his well-deserved appointment.
