The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has recorded a significant increase in the number of admission seekers, who picked the institution as their first choice.
Investigations by FUNAAB Bulletin revealed that the University has recorded an increase from 10,870 candidates, of those who chose the institution as first choice last year, to 24,786 applicants in the on-going admission exercise.
Confirming the sharp increase in an interview with FUNAAB Bulletin, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Toyin Arowolo disclosed that aside the first choice candidates, 23,091 applicants made the University their second choice.
Professor Arowolo stressed that, “Altogether, over 47,000 candidates picked FUNAAB as their first and second choices”.
The Senate and Admissions Unit of the University put the number of candidates, who picked FUNAAB as their first and second choice last year at 10,879 and 9,986, respectively.
The figures were made available to FUNAAB Bulletin by Mrs. Wuraola Badmus, on behalf of the Principal Assistant Registrar, Senate and Admissions, Mr. Abdulsobbur Salaam.
Commenting on the astronomical increase, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Arowolo said, “We expected the increase in view of the progress FUNAAB has made in the last one year. Don’t forget that apart from the fact that FUNAAB is rated seond in the country by the World Webometrics Ranking of Universities, the Presidential Visitation Panel also gave us distinction by rating us A with two others in the country”.
Speaking in the same vein, the Director, FUNAAB Universal Conservices’ Limited, Professor Francis Sowemimo said, “People want to identify with the best and also want to obtain the best. This might not be unconnected with the Web ranking and the introduction of new courses in Management Sciences”.
