The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, last Thursday attended the meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), held at the COLPLANT lecture theatre.
Professor Oyewole attended the meeting even as ASUU-FUNAAB emerged the third best in the country for proper maintenance of financial records.
The Vice-Chancellor, who was attending the meeting for the first time in his official capacity as Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Toyin Arowolo.
Barely ten minutes after settling down, ASUU Chairman, Dr. Badmus informed the Vice-Chancellor that the branch had just won the prestigious award of diligent financial conduct.
According to Dr. Badmus, “At the NDC conference that was just concluded, we were among the best three that kept proper financial record and book keeping”.
Presenting the award to the Vice-Chancellor amid applause from members, Dr. Badmus stated that the award “is a demonstration of the fact that we don’t just criticize spending or appropriation of fund, we criticize ourselves too”.
Professor Oyewole was ushered into the meeting with a standing ovation by members of the union who were happy to see him in their midst.
The Vice-Chancellor after acknowledging cheers from members of the union humbly walked to a second row on the left side of the auditorium and took his seat modestly, directly opposite the podium where the Chairman, Dr. Abiodun Badmus was busy addressing members.
Professor Oyewole was observed to be very quiet as he listened with rapt attention.
The ASUU Chairman further described the award “as a challenge to his leadership of ASUU not to come third which my predecessor got for us but to do more by getting a better position in my tenure”.
