Members of the University community have been assured of improved water, power supply, Internet services and other amenities on campus.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, gave the assurance during his maiden official familiarisation visits to Colleges of the University.
Addressing Academic and Non-Teaching staff, who received him at their respective Colleges, Prof. Oyewole noted “I know that in every College we have common and peculiar problems”.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Principal Officers and Directors of essential services, namely the Director of Works and Services, Engr. (Mrs.) Omolola Banjo and the Director, Physical Planning Unit, Mr. B. A. Ayodele.
Professor Oyewole stated that he had noted identified challenges by promptly visiting the affected Colleges, in company of Engr. (Mrs.) Banjo and the Director, Information and Communications Resource Centre (ICTREC), Dr. Abayomi Oguntoye, for necessary intervention.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the Director of Works and Services, for making good her promise to ensure at least a six-hour un-interrupted power supply to academic buildings, between 8 am and 2 pm on a daily basis.
“I have directed Works and Services to ensure uninterrupted power supply in our academic buildings and I want to thank the Director because she had assured that there will be electricity between 8.00 am and 2.00 pm; that is six hours in our academic buildings”.
Admitting that the six-hour supply of electricity to academic buildings would be a temporary corrective measure, Professor Oyewole disclosed that Management had resolved to evolve a lasting solution by procuring an alternative energy source, through the turbine.
According to him, “What we are doing to fix electricity problem is to look for alternatives but I tell you, we are not going to the old time, when we spent days without electricity. This new administration is seeking for alternative source of energy”.
“I think we need about N630 million to get the Turbine but we are not going to spend our money. We don’t even have such. We have been telling Banks to assist us and if you have a better alternative, don’t keep it to yourself. Whatever proposal you bring, will get my attention”, he added.
