The Coordinator, 2012 Yam Roasting Festival, Mr. Michael Jaiyeola, has described the resuscitation of the annual yam roasting festival by the University, as a right step in the right direction.
Mr. Jaiyeola made this assertion while speaking in a chat with FUNAAB Bulletin in the Directorate of Public Relations.
According to him, the festival, which dated back to 1996, is a social gathering where the Town and Gown actors meet to discuss developmental issues and suggest ways to move the University forward.
Justifying the relevance of the festival to the University, Mr. Jaiyeola, a Principal Farm Manager, stated that the ceremony affords stakeholders and industrialists the opportunity to chart the way forward on innovative collaboration, in a relaxed atmosphere.
Mr. Jaiyeola noted that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, met recently with the co-initiator of the festival, Chief Olusegun Osunkeye and held discussions to resuscitate the festival among other collaborative partnerships.
Speaking on the readiness of the University for the festival, the Coordinator said invitation cards, banners and other publicity materials had been produced to ensure a successful outing.
