A distinguished Alumnus of the University and President, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Chief (Dr.) Kola Jamodu, OFR, has lifted the University with an endowment of Five Million Naira (N5million) in scholarship to the Best Graduating Students in Food and Nutrition and Management Science, respectively.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole disclosed the gesture on Monday at the Opening Ceremony of the 16th Triennial Symposium of International Society for Tropical Root Crops (ISTRC), held at Professor Mahmood Yakubu Lecture Theatre.
Professor Oyewole who commended the former Minister of Agriculture for the gesture, called on well meaning Nigerians to emulate him.
Speaking, however, in an exclusive chat with FUNAAB Bulletin, Chief Jamodu expatiated on the endowment.
According to him “I am saying that in Food and Nutrition, the best Graduating student should be given an award. Also, in the area of Management Science, the Best Graduating Student should be given an award because no matter what you do, you must be able to manage the resources optimally”.
Explaining the rationale behind the endowment, the President of MAN said, “The only way we can eradicate ignorance and poverty is to get our people well informed. One of the veritable ways through which this can be done, is by making sure that our people have the right and proper access to education.
Commenting on the choice of FUNAAB for the endowment, Chief Jamodu said, “Well, you know I was honoured by the University and I felt what legacy should I leave behind for our students to follow. That was exactly the reason”.
