The Management has directed that henceforth, payment of monthly overtime claim to staff will be based on approved budgetary provision.
This is because many of the requests cannot be justified.
The directive is contained in a memo reference FUNAAB/BUR/ACCT.88, dated 14th November, 2012 and signed on behalf of the University Bursar, Mr. Moses Ilesanmi by Mr. Olalekan Osinuga.
The memo, which came under the heading, “Notice on Payment of Overtime Claim”, read in part:
“We have observed an increase in the payment of monthly overtime. We do not deny the fact that there may be need to do overtime, a situation where staff abandoned their work during official hours, and stayed unnecessarily late afterwards, in order to claim over-time, without taking into consideration the current manning/staff level of the University is unjustifiable. And this may be the apparent implication of the monthly increase in overtime as being currently experienced”.
“Henceforth, payment of overtime will be based on approved budgetary provision as many of the requests cannot be justified”, it added.
“Consequently, the management directed that ALL Overtime approving authorities, should base their approval on the availability of fund in their departmental budget, as payment will not be made without Budget Provision”.
