COLERM Fire Disaster Averted, as VC Commends Staff of Environmental Unit
Part of the college building of the College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM) was engulfed by fire in the early hours of Monday, July 2, 2018.
In a detailed report by the Assistant Chief Environmental Officer of the University, Mr. Bolarinwa Peters, the fire started at about 6:18 am in the morning and was reported to have been caused by a sudden electrical spark that was triggered in the power switch when electricity light came on.
According to the report, the surge was further worsened by availability of ordinary combustibles of trashes and energized electrical materials in close vicinity of the switch.

Based on the regrettable fire incident, the Assistant Chief Environmental Officer recommended that all electrical materials on campus, such as switch boards, distribution boards, fuse boxes, circuit breakers among its likes be kept in good house-keeping condition devoid of bins and trashes.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako had since commended the staff of the Environmental Unit for their role in putting out the fire.
