The Department of Home Science and Management in the College of Food Science and Human Ecology recently held a very colourful Fashion Show to showcase the outfits made by its 400-level students of Clothing and Textile option.

Welcoming guests to the show, the Dean of the College, Professor Michael Idowu described Fashion show as an event where designers display their completed garments on live models through modeling.

According to him, Fashion Show communicates clothing trends, stories, values and messages to the prospective customers, adding that it is a kind of sales promotion which helps to enhance the designers’ image.

Professor Idowu also disclosed that it is an opportunity for the students to showcase their work and to learn how to organize a Fashion Show after graduation, adding that clothing and textiles is a course that empowers students to be job creators and self-employed.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako observed that the event is a unique and glamourous one, he commending the students for taking up the profession, saying that they would become employers and not job seekers after graduation. Professor Salako was represented by the Dean, College of Engineering. Professor Johnson Adewunmi.

Welcoming guests to the event, the Ag. Head of Department HSM, Dr. (Mrs.) Abolanle Lasode appreciated the Management and everyone for their support, noting that the event where the students showcase their practical work is an initiative of the course lecturer of Advanced Tailoring Techniques, She enjoined the students to always wear their designs with confidence and boldness.

Earlier, the course lecturer, Professor (Mrs.) Adetoun Amubode disclosed that the Fashion Show with the theme “Fashion Waves” is part of the Continuous Assessment of 400 level students of HSM taking Clothing and Textile option, the course, according to her is Advanced Tailoring Techniques.

According to Professor Amubode, the students were given two questions as their practical and Continuous Assessment, which are, using their body measurement to design a style suitable for a birthday party of General Olusegun Obasanjo and secondly to make a dress suitable for an Award/Dinner night in which they were invited.

She added that the marks obtained will be part of their Continuous Assessment, noting that they were expected to obtain this mark by modeling and marks will be awarded for the skill in designing the cloth, movement, posture, and confidence amongst others.

Highlights of the event included the Fashion Parade by the students’ models, staff Kimbo and exhibition and jumbo sales.

The Deputy Dean, Heads of various Departments, other lecturers and staff of COLFHEC were there to add colour to the event.
