In recognition and appreciation of the essential role of the Press to organizational and societal development, the University Management recently hosted Journalists to a Media Luncheon.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako who explained that the luncheon was in appreciation of the support of the Press to the success story of the University and not a bribe, urged them to always be objective and display professionalism in the discharge of their duties as exhibited by their Colleagues in the University’s Directorate of Public Relations.

Professor Salako who is also a patron of NUJ assured the Journalists that the University shall not be in the news for any negative report, however, he charged them that should they get anything negative about the university, they should verify from the University before publishing.

According to hum, “I am not asking you not to publish but publish the truth and the truth only”.

The Vice Chancellor also warned against internet fraud which has become the order of the day among Nigerian youth, stressing that his administration will not tolerate any image smearing due to such actions.

Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Chairman Ceremonials Committee, Professor Biodun Badmus commended the Journalists for the good job they have been doing in projecting the image of the University, urging them to also share their contributions on how to further move the University forward.

Corroborating the Chairman, the Head, Directorate of Public Relations, Dr. Linda Onwuka lauded the mix of journalists from the print and electronic media for being worthy partners in progress.

She stated that as partners in progress, the University will always have cause to call on them, charging them to always respond favourably whenever they are called upon.

Responding on behalf of Journalists, the Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council, Comrade Wole Shokunbi expressed gratitude to the University Management for appreciating the activities of the press, while assuring it of NUJ’s continued support towards the success of the University.
