Two donor agencies, Thomas Reuters and Books for Africa, have donated 589 boxes of books containing 500 text books each, to the University.

The University Librarian, Mr. Abayomi Agboola, received the voluminous books covering quite a chunk of disciplines and neatly wrapped in cartons on behalf of the academic community, last Wednesday.

Speaking with UNAAB Bulletin moments after the delivery of the books, the University Librarian, who was accompanied by Mrs. Adeola George, facilitator of the books and Principal Librarian, said the consignment will serve three categories of students, in the elementary, post-elementary and at the tertiary levels.

Mr. Agboola, stressed that the books will be distributed across University Libraries, particularly the University Staff School, International School, Institute for Human Resources Development (INHURD) and ‘Nimbe Adedipe Library.

Mr. Agboola who expressed joy over the donation said it would be of advantage in the area of skill acquisition and impartation of knowledge.
More importantly, the University Librarian pointed out the the books will add value to the Nimbe Adedipe Library and others during the visit of the Accreditation Panel, as well as enhance the preparation for the diversification of the University.

Mr. Agboola who is the Chairman of Committee of Universities Librarians (CULNU) described the donation as a valedictory gift, as his tenure of office expires by the end of May.

Baring her mind on why she facilitated the donation of the set of books, Mrs. George said, it was borne out of the challenge of an apparent shortage of books at the INHURD Library.

The Principal Librarian also said the intervention will assist the “growing student population of UNAAB, attain the peak of their careers”, noting that education remained the bedrock of national development.

According to her, over 70% of the donated textbooks are tertiary books covering Medicine, Engineering, Biology, Mathematics, English Language and Leisure.

Mrs. George thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun and the University Librarian, Mr. Agboola, for evolving a congenial atmosphere that encourages staff to use their initiatives and contribute their quota to the development of the University.
