A new Student Union executive of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), had been elected to run the affairs of the body, for the next one year.
The election which was noted to be free and fair, climaxed with the emergence of a 300-Level undergraduate of Computer Science, Comrade Bamgbade Abdulkareem, as the President-elect with 1,084 votes to defeat three other contestants.
In his post election chat with UNAAB Bulletin, the President-elect, Comrade Bamgbade, disclosed that his administration will constantly explore the avenue of dialogue with the Management and Students on issues of utmost concerns.
The President-elect expressed appreciation to the University Management for putting adequate security measures in place, during the election and debunked the rumour of religious bias in pursuing student welfare, assuring that the issue of religion will not be a barrier during his tenure. Comrade Bamgbade observed that violence was never a good option in attaining results and as such, promised to premise his leadership style on the platform of mutual dialogue and peace.
Results also showed that Lawal Shakirat, was voted as the first ever female Vice-President, (300L Microbiology), while Comrades Agbekisa Damilola (400L AE&RD) and Ozioma Bernard (200L SS&LM) were elected un-opposed as General Secretary and Assistant General Secretary, respectively.
Others elected, were Comrade Lawal Lateef (Welfare Secretary, 200L SS&LM), Comrade Adeyemi Adebowale (Sport Secretary, 200L SS&LM) and Comrade Omodewu Ayooluwa (Financial Secretary, 400L PRM). Comrade Awokoya Oriyomi,(200L FWM) was equally elected as the Social Secretary, while Comrade Murtala Yusuf became the Public Relations Officer of the Union.
