The Director, Graduate Records and Career Centre (GRECC), Dr. (Mrs.) Helen Bodunde, has made it known to students that they can become achievers by seeking for adequate information on their choice of career.

She made this observation at a One-day lecture titled, “Youth of Today and Career Challenges of Tomorrow: The Way to a Sustainable Better Future”, organized by a mentor, under the African Women In Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), Mrs. Petra Abdulsalam-Saghir of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development.

According to her, students should get adequate information about any career they wish to dabble into, stressing that they should know the “dos” and “don’ts” of each career, adding that with information you can go places.

Recommending the Internet as a source of information on their choice of careers, she noted that there is more to the internet than playing games and chatting, adding that students should use the technology to gather information.

In the same vein, she said students could meet Guidance Counsellors in their various schools to provide them with information on their choice of careers and to also advise them on how to go about pursuing them.

Dr. Bodunde also counselled students to have a positive attitude towards their manner of addressing people and gender issues.

She encouraged them to follow their passion and strive to know their values, as this would go a long way in making them great in life.

In his remarks, another Mentor and Director, AG Leventis Memorial Centre for Learning (LEMCEL), Prof. Lateef Sanni commended the organizer, Mrs. Petra Abdulsalam-Saghir, who is also one of his mentees, for coming up with such an educative programme.

He also charged the students to remain focus but remain humble, by finding ways to convince some parents who may not want them to practice their chosen career.
