The University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) Cooperative Multipurpose Society (CMS) has held its 24th Annual General Meeting.

In his Management Report, the President, Professor Adewale Dipeolu disclosed the Executive’s desire to build a Cooperative House, which he said will spring up in the next couple of months, adding that the House will be used for meetings, social gatherings, among others.

He said, “As an executive, we still have a burning desire to build a Cooperative House”.

Prof. Dipeolu disclosed that the net surplus of the society had increased from N16,073,547.36 last year to N27,334,769.70 this year with the membership strength also surging upwards.

On the issue of loans, he said, “Like other years, most members come in every other month to request for emergency loans. I know it is a reflection of the defects in our economy, but these requests for additional loans are on the increase.”

“It is getting worrisome not only because of the amount of time we have to put into granting the request, but it smacks largely of a plan-less culture among our members. It cannot be business as usual in the days ahead. We must all have a rethink and start planning our expenses properly.”, he added.

Appreciating the Management for its support, he said, “I have good cause to thank the University Management, our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun and his team for ensuring that we get our salaries on time and our cooperative deductions almost immediately after salaries are paid.”

He also enjoined the Cooperators to pray God for committed ones to replace the Principal Officers, whose tenure will soon expire.

In his remarks, the Acting Registrar, Mr. Adeleke Adeboye commended the Executives for coming up with the idea of building a Cooperative House, which he said can also be used to generate income for the society, calling on them to take the project serious.

“In the next one or two years, we want to see the Cooperative House”, he stressed.

Worthy of note is the fact that the Executives were returned by the cooperators, to run the affairs of the society for a second term.
