The University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) has commenced an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Practical Training Session, the first of its kind in Nigerian Universities, for prospective Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates.

The Training, which aims at exposing would-be Post-UTME candidates to the technicality of e-examination, began on Monday, 18th July, 2011, at the University Central Computer Laboratory.

Speaking in an exclusive chat with UNAAB Bulletin, the Director of the University Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC), Dr. Abayomi Oguntoye disclosed that over 3000 prospective Post-UTME candidates have registered for the training at press time, on Friday.

He stressed that the University will still register more students before the end of the training on August 8th because “not every student is computer literate enough to confront the kind of e-exam that we are doing now”.

Commenting on the conduct of the students, Dr Oguntoye said; “generally they are peaceful but I must state that some of them are very slopy while others are yet to imbibe the UNAAB culture of decorum, we do hope after their screening they will adjust.”

Corroborating him, the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Sam Oluwalana said the Jambites have been orderly, with the exception of few ones who dressed provocatively.

Baring their minds on the training, a prospective student, Miss Adebayo Tosin, who is aspiring to read Food Science said she enrolled for the training because she felt it was compulsory for her, moreso that she has no idea of e-examination.

She thanked UNAAB for organizing the training saying, “It (the training) has really helped me to develop myself in the use of computer. As a matter of fact, I now have an idea of the e-examination”.

Miss Adebayo further stated that; “even if UNAAB doesn’t offer me admission, though I know I will make it, the experience and knowledge acquired through the training will be part and parcel of me for life”.
