As part of efforts to enhance the productivity of its Staff and Students, the University is to sponsor Twenty-two (22) members of the University Community to a World Congress on Human Capacity Development in September, 2011.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun broke the good news at a Senate Luncheon, marking the end of the 2010/2011 Academic Session, held recently at Sweet Sensation Hall, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Prof. Balogun, had earlier at the Luncheon put the size of the beneficiaries, which are to be drawn from all arms of the University, including the students populace at twenty (20).

He, however, directed the Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC) to send two (2) beneficiaries, in addition to the exisiting size, following the impressive performance of some of its staffers at the formal presentation of “Students Examinations Result Checking Solutions, which is an innovation of the Centre”.

Expatiating on the Congress, Prof. Balogun stated that, “I won’t handpick anybody. The constituent bodies will be giving their allocations and we shall allow them to nominate their representatives”.

The Vice-Chancellor, pleaded with Deans, Directors, Coordinators and other Heads of other organs of the University to nominate their representatives by merit and not by favour.

He pointed out that anything short of merit in the selection of the beneficiaries of the Congress will be a disservice to the University.

Prof. Balogun also sounded it loud and clear, that the Congress is neither a Greek gift nor a gesture, laced with political colouration.

According to him; “We are not doing this to garner your votes or referendum for the Vice-Chancellor to have a second term that can never be”

He stressed that rather, the Congress is in line with a popular slogan in the banking industry, which posits that “if you don’t train them, don’t blame them”.

The Vice-Chancellor explained that for one, the forthcoming World Congress on capacity development will expose the beneficiaries to an in-depth and beneath the surface training on how to discover and maximize potentials, towards achieving organizational goals and objectives, with ease.

Besides, Prof. Balogun expatiated that the training will also expose the would-be trainees to the “rudiments and criteria of University web ranking”.

He stated that it is expected of the beneficiaries, after the training to train other members of the University Community, especially those in their constituencies.
