Bankole, Salaam Step-Up

The Acting Director, Environmental Management Unit, Mr. Emmanuel Bankole and a Senior Assistant Registrar, Senate and Admission, Mr. Abdulsobbur Salaam, have done the University proud.

Comrade Bankole, a former Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), UNAAB branch and Vice-Chairman, Ogun State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), emerged the Deputy National President of SSANU, while Comrade Salaam, who is the incumbent Branch Chairman of the Union was re-elected as the Secretary for the Western Zone.

According to a release, signed by SSANU’s image-maker, Mr. A.A Olafimihan, Com. Bankole was outstanding in the election, trouncing his opponent with an overwhelming vote of 213 as against 102 polled by his challenger, at the just concluded SSANU Second Triennial National Delegate Conference, held at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Com. Salaam was also on song as he was returned unopposed for a second term of office, based on his enviable performance record in his first tenure. With his return, Com. Salaam has made history as the first Secretary of SSANU, Western zone, to be re-elected.

The duo of Bankole and Salaam hoisted the University flag higher before eminent personalities, including the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mukhtar Yaro, a former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Professor Sheikh Abdulahi, who graced the Conference.

Also in attendance at the Conference, was the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Abdulahi Mustapha and the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdullwaheed Omar.

Meanwhile, Comrade Samson Chikioke Ugwoke has emerged SSANU National President. He took over from Com. Promise Adewusi who is the incumbent Deputy President of NLC.

In the meantime, a reception has been held in honour of the newly elected officers at the Auditorium of the College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT) of UNAAB.

Speaking at the Reception, the Branch Chairman, Comrade Salaam, in reference to the victories at the polls said “What we witnessed on Friday was an overwhelming support for UNAAB SSANU at the national level’’.

He disclosed that Comrade Bankole “did not put himself up “for election, rather he received an overwhelming support from the majority.
