Parents and guardians of prospective students to the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), have been admonished on the need to instil proper dressing ethics in their children so as to avoid being sent home.

The admonition was given by the Director of Graduate Record and Career Centre (GRECC), Dr. Helen Bodunde, at an interactive session with parents and guardians of the prospective students during the Post-UTME Examination held in the University, last week.

Emphasizing on appropriate dress sense, Dr. Bodunde stated that Parents and Guardians should be unequivocal in the responsibility of ensuring close monitoring of their children by paying them unscheduled periodic visitation while they are on campus.

She further affirmed that, provision of monthly allowance to the children would undoubtedly restrain them from waywardness, adding that, parents and guardians should, in conjunction with their children, deliberate on the modalities of their monthly stipend.

She counselled parents to be wary of their wards’ friends and associates, adding that, they should not be miserly on finances with their wards, particularly on accommodation.

According to her, “if you tell a child to pair up with another student, there is a likelihood of bad influence and there is a possibility of you spending more later, if things go wrong”.

She however noted with dismay the arbitrary discrimination by parents and guardians in ensuring proper upkeep of female Students over male students, saying that, both are supposed to be well taken care of and sought after.
