The Vice-Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, has commended the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), for its members’ efforts in preparing a standard Academic Brief for the newly-created College of Management Sciences of the University.

Professor Balogun gave the commendation while playing host to the ICAN President, Professor Francis Ojaide, who paid him a courtesy visit along with other executive members of the Institute, last Friday.

The Vice-Chancellor, who expressed Management’s appreciation for the quality of the Academic Brief, said ICAN members in the services of the University had proven outstanding diligence in the conduct of their official tasks.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the ICAN members had contributed immensely and creditably to the financial administration of the University, without blemish.

“Without the efforts of your members, I don’t know what would have been the fate of financial administration in the University. We have not had cause to accuse any of them of professional misconduct or financial recklessness”, stated the Vice-Chancellor.

On the newly-created College of Management Sciences, Professor Balogun assured the ICAN President that the University will not leave any stone unturned in conforming to global academic standard, with the confidence that graduates of the College would be of world-class.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that the teaching staff of the College will reflect a good mix of academic and professional quality to achieve the desired standard, while noting that seven ICAN members had already been offered appointments, in preparation for the take-off of the College.

Earlier in his speech, the ICAN President, Professor Francis Ojaide, said the purpose of his visit was to further nurture the symbiotic relationship between the University and the Institute.

The ICAN boss assured that the Institute would always be ready to offer assistance to the University in areas of financial administration, as well as in the realization of its dreams on the establishment of the College of Management sciences.

Professor Ojaide then appealed to Vice-Chancellors to consider the issue of raising the minimum entry point for ICAN members, in the Nigerian Universities. While thanking the Vice-Chancellor for the support extended to ICAN members in UNAAB.

Prof. Ojaide appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to ensure that only competent professionals were appointed into leadership positions of the University.
