The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, has reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the generality of the student and workforce of the institution.
To this extent, Professor Balogun said he was ready to deprive himself of personal comfort at the expense of providing succor for the greatest number of constituents under his watch as the Chief Executive of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor made this statement today, while handing-over, three brand new Honda Accord (2.0 LX) I-V Tech cars, to some Principal Officers of the University, at the premises of the Royal Greens Guest House.
Reiterating his passion for student and staff welfare, Professor Balogun said, “I am ready to walk barefooted and deny myself some personal pleasures, if only to provide succor to the generality of the people.
It is for this reason that my administration has provided about 156 vehicles to date, within the last four and half years, such that students and staff could at least, enjoy some minimum comforts”, the Vice-Chancellor added.
The Vice-Chancellor however cautioned that officials entrusted with University properties should ensure prudent and safe handling, in order to justify resource deployment and sustenance.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, it pained him to learn that some officials and drivers of the University had not embraced the culture of regular servicing and maintenance of their vehicles. He threatened to sanction erring drivers, henceforth.
Keys to the three Honda cars were later presented to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Toyin Arowolo; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Professor Felix Salako and the Bursar, Mr. Moses Ilesanmi.
Just as the handing-over was being completed, the University’s Coordinator of Budget, Mr. Elkanah Oloruntoba, informed the Vice-Chancellor that three new luxury buses, for student transportation, had been delivered, while the fourth would arrive, in due course.
