The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, has added another feather to his cap by becoming the Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council.

The honour was conferred on Professor Balogun last Friday, at the Ogun NUJ Gala/Award Night, which climaxed its Press Week activities, at the Daktad Hotel, Abeokuta.

Performing the investiture, the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Tunde Sodeke, said the Vice-Chancellor had through his private and official conducts, assisted the practice of Journalism by lending his hands of cooperation and magnanimity to journalists.

At the event, which had the National President of NUJ, Mallam Garba Mohammed, in attendance, Comrade Sodeke eulogised the Vice-Chancellor as a foremost administrator, who had distinguished himself as the ‘most media-friendly Chief Executive of educational institutions in Ogun State’.

The State NUJ Chairman disclosed that the new Patron had always dazzled the Council with his deep love for the Journalism profession which he said Professor Balogun had demonstrated in the level of his vast media engagement in activities of the University which he presides over, as Vice-Chancellor.

The Chairman said, “I was stunned one day, when I discovered that the University had about five different news-mentions in just one national newspaper, in a day. This goes to demonstrate the value he places on journalism and its practitioners”.

The award was received on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, by the Dean of the College of Natural Sciences, Professor Tope Popoola, with the Head of Public Relations, Mr. ‘Lasun Somoye and the Coordinator of FUNAAB FM, Mr. Ayo Arowojolu in attendance.
