The University played host to members of the Institution Accreditation, from the Universities Commission (NUC), Abuja, who conducted the Institution Accreditation Exercise, between December 5 and 9. 2011.
Excerpts: On the Importance of the Exercise:
“The importance of this exercise is not lost on us at all. We are aware of the importance of the objective of this exercise. It is not all about the issue of the Accreditation Team going round the Universities, but another ample opportunity to tell the government the basic truth. Being ranked as one of the best universities is not by wishful thinking but by putting in all the needed resources actually enables us to achieve the goal”.
On FUNAAB’s Level of Preparedness for the Exercise:
“Institutional accreditation is not something you can prepare for in one or two months. It’s about a month ago we got wind of it during an interaction with NUC. We will give this team the maximum co-operation that it deserves. Do we even have any choice? After all, it is in our own interest”.
On Submission of Relevant Documents to the NUC Team:
“Do not be scared by the volume of papers and document on display. They are meant to fast-track your job. They are relevant laws and regulations, guiding the condition of service of staff. It also includes our calendar from 2005 to 2012, information on financial activities of the University, especially, financial manual, minutes of all meetings of Council, Management, Senate, Colleges and Departments in the last five years. I have 87 of such here”.
