The Directorate of Public Relations (DPR), FUNAAB, shone like a galaxy of stars, carting away two awards at the just-concluded University’s 3rd Night of Excellence, held penultimate Sunday, at the Jubilee Multi-Purpose Hall, Bishop’s Court, Onikolobo, Abeokuta.

Eminent personalities, guests and well-wishers at the colourful event were thrilled as two members of staff of the Directorate won awards in two different categories.

The Assistant Director and Head, Public Relations, Mr. Peter Olasunkanmi Somoye, blazed the trail by winning the prestigious award of Outstanding Peace Ambassador.

‘Lasun, as the spokesman of the University is fondly called, was cheered and commended by the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okunkenu IV, while handing over his Award to him, said: “I was wondering, hoping and expecting if you too will be deserving of an award when you praised one of your subordinates, who was a recipient while you were anchoring”.

Also honoured from the PR Directorate was Mr. James Olusogo Oyelakin, fondly called ‘Sogo the Captain’ and ‘Baba Yemisi’ , by fellow colleagues in the office.

Oyelakin, a Senior Clerical Officer, who doubles as the operator of the University’s Public Address System at official functions, won the Productivity Performance Award (Junior Non-Teaching Staff), and was described as a hardworking staff.

Also winning the Outstanding Peace Ambassador Award, alongside Mr. Somoye, was the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Segun Lagoke and the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Sam Oluwalana.
