The University has awarded scholarship to a 300-level student in the Department Statistics, College of Natural Sciences (COLNAS), Miss Aramide, Opeyemi Afisat, for winning several medals for the institution at national and international competitions.
According to a release, signed by the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Christiana Kuforiji, “the University Management has noted with great delight, the various medals you have won, both at national and international competitions which have contributed in raising the bar of excellence of the University”.
“The University Management, in acknowledgement of your effort, has approved the award of a scholarship to you until the completion of your First Degree programme in this University”.
The scholarship award covers the payment of her school fees, free residential hall space and payment of N20, 000, as book allowance, per session.
The scholarship award, which takes effect from the 2011/2012 academic session, is renewable annually, subject to good academic standing, at the end of each academic session.
It would be recalled that last December, Miss Aramide won gold and silver medals in the light weight category at the Korean Ambassador Cup and the West African Taekwondo Championship, held in Abuja.
Before then, she had won gold medals at the last edition of the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA), held in Benin, Edo State.
Aramide, popularly called Alhaja by fellow students and teeming fans also won silver medal for Nigeria during the African Youth Taekwondo Championship.
She is the current Sports Secretary in the Iyalode Tinubu Hall of Residence.
