The Head, Webometric Centre, Dr. Olusegun Folorunso, has explained how FUNAAB came second in the latest Webometric Ranking of World Universities, as well as the challenges lying ahead

Speaking with FUNAAB Bulletin, Dr. Folorunso, who gave thanks and glory to the Almighty for the great feat said: “we have been able to study the requirements. It is a global ranking and the organizer meant business. We dutifully studied the requirement and the result is now success”.

Speaking further, he attributed the feat to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun’s love and deep knowledge of Web Ranking, saying, “unknown to many, our Vice-Chancellor is an expert in this area”.

Dr. Folorunso, however, informed that the Webometrics Centre was no longer basking in the euphoria of the success of the University in the latest ranking exercise as it is already looking forward to another exercise.

According to him, “we have started working towards another ranking. This one, where we came second is gone. We have a table; more of a league table. I am going to start comparing our web status with the best in the world and in Africa. That is just minor, but the major strategy, I won’t reveal, for security reasons”.

He, however, stressed the need for the University to revise its web policy, urging members of the University “to take the issue of ranking seriously because some members of the University Community have this lackadaisical attitude towards Webometrics”.
