The unique attributes and virtues of the wife of the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Elizabeth Abidemi Balogun, have been observed to be her strongest weapons, which distinguish her among contemporaries.
The naturally quiet and unassuming Professor (Mrs.) Balogun was last Friday drawn out of her cocoon, as members of the University community joined her at a thanksgiving service, in commemoration of her 58th birthday.
The short but spicy early-morning service was low-keyed and attended by select members of the University community.
The Dean, Student Affairs, Professor Samuel Oluwalana gave the exhortation, while prayers were offered by the trio of the Bursar, Deacon Olusola Ilesanmi, Pastor Samson Adeniran and Reverend Ademola Sobote. Some of the guests at the event had a rare opportunity of assessing the personality of Professor (Mrs.) Balogun, with a unanimous verdict of “simple”; “humble”; “never exerting her right”, among other encomiums, poured on her.
In her Vote of Thanks, the celebrant expressed appreciation for the love and support of all community members for her family, particularly, as demonstrated towards her husband and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun.
She craved the understanding of the University for the short and sparse invitation to the birthday, saying, “I don’t like bothering people and I don’t like to waste valuable time”.
