The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Congregation, has elected two representatives on the Search Team for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor for the University, after the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent.

With a total of 228 votes cast and five voided, Dr. Moruf Atayese, HOD (PPCP) in the College of Plant Science (COLPLANT) and Prof. Michael Ozoje, Deputy Dean, PG School, emerged winners with 180 and 132 votes respectively while Prof. Okanlawon Onagbesan had 123 votes.

Speaking at the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun said, the Search Team is expected to assist the Community in the scanning of the environment, aside from individual responses to facilitate the emergence of the 5th Vice-Chancellor by April 28, 2012.

Prof. Balogun affirmed that the advertisement for the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor would close by April 3, 2012, adding that, the Search Team has between March 13 and 27, to submit their report to the Acting Registrar.

According to Prof. Balogun, the emergence of the 5th Vice-Chancellor by April 28, 2012 means, “I have a Vice-Chancellor to work with for four weeks before handing-over”.

He, however, commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise “right from the Senate to the Congregation”, praying that the University will never go back to the chaotic times of succession, as witnessed in the past. Meanwhile, Senate also elected two of its members (who are not members of the Council), to join the Search Team for the appointment of the 5th Vice-Chancellor.

The elected members were Prof. B. A. Adewumi of the College of Engineering (COLENG), who raked in 54 votes and Prof. Yemi Akegbejo-Samson of the College of Environmental Resources Management, who scored 48 votes to beat Prof. Michael Ozoje with 40 votes.
