The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) detachment, last Wednesday, held its annual Passing-Out Parade, Handing-Over, Investiture and Induction ceremonies at the University’s Sports Centre.

Speaking at the Parade ground, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, charged the Red Cross Society to keep up the humanitarian roles they have been playing, as he appreciates their presence and contributions at University’s occasions.

Represented by the Assistant Director, Nursing Services of the University’s Health Centre, Mrs. Titilayo Okuboye, the Vice-Chancellor asserted that, the NRC should not relent on their driving principles of impartiality, unity, universality, independence, humanity, neutrality and voluntary service.

Professor Oyewole however implored them to live by the Indian Maxim which says “watch your thoughts, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your character; watch your character, they become your habits and watch your habits as they become your destiny”.

Earlier in his speech, the Commandant of FUNAAB Detachment, Mr. Emmanuel Akinyelu said, the Red Cross Society is wholly concerned about service to humanity, adding “wherever we find ourselves, let’s endeavour in our little way to care for the needy and the less privileged”.

He stated that his administration was commissioned on May 17, 2011 and comprises of a 14-man executive team.

Meanwhile, as part of the Passing-out Parade’s activities, the wife of the Vice-Chancellor, Mrs. Omobolanle Oyewole, was inducted as an Associate Member of the Society.

Others inducted as Associate Members were the Coordinator, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr. (Mrs.) Adeniran Sonola; Mr. Ramon Balogun both from the University’s Health Centre and Mr. Victor Osuntolu of the Sports Directorate.
