The newly-built Shopping Complex of the Staff Cooperative Multi-purpose Society Limited of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) was last Wednesday commissioned by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, at its 25th Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The Vice-Chancellor said the commissioning was “an important day because the University has evolved from a small beginning”, describing the Shopping Complex as “an important contribution to the development of the University”, commending the leadership of the Society for its initiative and commitment.

Professor Oyewole seized the opportunity to reiterate his administration’s commitment to putting in place, a befitting staff housing scheme in due course.

Speaking at the occasion, the Director, Cooperative Services, Ogun State, Alhaji Kamorudeen Shokoya, called for judicious use of resources.

The President of the Cooperative Society, Professor Adewale Dipeolu; Vice-President, Alhaji Kamorudeen Adedo and other executive officers were lauded for the remarkable achievements recorded by the body.

The Director of Cooperative Services, Ogun State declared, “I am impressed and amazed at the performance of FUNAAB Cooperative Society. It is one of the societies we are proud of in Ogun State; that is why I am here, to give them a well-deserved honour”.

He described the operation and organization of FUNAAB Cooperative Society as superb, calling on others to emulate it.

Earlier, the President of FUNAAB Cooperative Society, Professor Dipeolu described the new complex as another effort at bettering the welfare of members and increasing the socio-economic activities of the University.

He explained further that the Shopping Complex was initiated as a business strategy, instituted to give members the opportunity to buy shares and get good returns on their money.

Professor Dipeolu added that the Shopping Complex was the first phase, adding that the second phase would be considered for execution.

While conducting guests round the Shopping Complex, the Vice-President, Alhaji Adedo said that there were 38 rooms with essential facilities in the Complex, with Mall ‘A’ having 12 shops while Malls ‘B’ and ‘C’ have 13 shops each.

He assured that the allocation of the second set of plots of land, recently acquired by the Society as well as the new shops, will start in a couple of weeks and commended members for their continued support and cooperation.

Meanwhile, the Society has posted a higher net surplus of N39,505,028.94, as against the N27,334,769.70 recorded in the preceding year.
