The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, has been conferred with the Professional Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST).

The award was conferred on Professor Oyewole barely 24 hours ago, during the Opening Ceremony of the 36th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the Institute, held at the University of Lagos Conference Centre, Akoka, Lagos.

Acknowledging the tremendous contributions of the Vice-Chancellor to the advancement of Food Science and Technology, the President of the Institute, Dr. John Obiora Onuora, decorated Professor Oyewole with the award insignia, thereby conferring on him, the title, right and privileges of the Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology.

Five other eminent Nigerians were also honoured with the Institute’s Professional Fellowship, while another three bagged the Honorary Fellowship and five others, including the President of the University’s Alumni Association and Head of Department, Food Science and Technology, FUNAAB, Professor Oladimeji Lateef Sanni, were given the Outstanding NIFSTers’ Award.

Responding on behalf of the Awardees, Professor Oyewole appreciated the Governing Council and the Executive of the Institute for the honour, with a pledge to live up to the expectation of the award and also ensure the development of the profession.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, was represented at the Opening Ceremony by the Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Ita Okon Bassey Ewa.

FUNAAB had an impressive participation at the 36th Annual Conference, with the likes of the Dean of the College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC), Professor (Mrs.) F.O Henshaw and retinue of staff and students of the Department.
