The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has bagged the prestigious Voice of Nigeria (VON) Award for emerging the First Runner-up in the Education Support Services (ESS) 2012 Essay Competition.

The Award came to the University through the Essay submission of an Alumnus, Mr. Adeoso Oluwasegun Ganiyu on “An Assessment of the Nigerian Universities Environment”, held at the VON Conference Room, Radio House, Abuja.

Speaking in a chat with FUNAAB Bulletin, Mr. Adeoso, a graduate of the Department of Chemistry disclosed that he submitted the essay, using FUNAAB as his case study while writing his project in the University in 2010.
According to him, the essay did not pose any difficulty because it was written at a time when the University was witnessing a lot of transformational development under the administration of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun.

Mr. Adeoso who revealed that contestants cut across the nation’s Universities, said only the top three were honoured.

“A medical student from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria came first, I emerged first runner up for FUNAAB, while a Law student from University of Benin emerged second runner up”.

The VON awardee commended the Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole led Administration for building on the legacy of his predecessor, while charging other students to be open to challenges and be ready to develop themselves in other disciplines.
