The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole has stated that the strength of the University depends on the orientation of people working there.

Professor Oyewole disclosed this on Wednesday, at the 5th Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Lecture Series, held at Professor Mahmood Yakubu Lecture Theatre.

Making reference to the third stanza, line five of the Solidarity Song of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) titled, ‘Solidarity Forever’ that was rendered by the members of the Union and part of which says, “We can bring to birth a new world”, the Vice-Chancellor said that FUNAAB too must bring to birth a new world.

Professor Oyewole, however, described leadership as one with a great grip and causing other people to hold the grip, adding that leaders also make road where there is no road and make other people to pass through, so as to make life better.

Reiterating his commitment to transparent leadership and to make FUNAAB a world-class University, the Vice-Chancellor declared that “Great SSANU” should equate to” Greater FUNAAB”.

Professor Oyewole expressed gratitude to SSANU for its “great work” in the University, calling on the Association not to relent in assisting FUNAAB to become a model.

Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Abdussobur Olayiwola Salaam described the Lecture as one of the Union’s little contributions to knowledge building and development.

According to him, “We have attempted to use the lecture series as a sounding board to addressing contemporary social and political issues, health, work ethics and even death.”

He, however, reminisced on the past Lecturers who had addressed various aspects of life; they were: Barrister Bimbo Atilola, Chief Afe Babalola SAN, Chief (Mrs.) Mojisola Ladipo, mni and Professor Charles Alebiosu.
