FUNAABSU President Mr. Tope Adesipo

The new President of the University Students’ Union (FUNAABSU), Mr. Tope Adesipo has described the introduction of Electronic Examination by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as a welcome development.

Mr. Adesipo who made this known in a chat with FUNAAB Bulletin stressed that the introduction of e-Exam by the board will curb malpractices of any kind.

He appealed to stakeholders in the education sector, especially the government, to look into ways of upgrading the internet facilities of the board, in order to guard against incessant network problem.

The FUNAABSU President highlighted his focus as including provision of quality and efficient representation of the students, to bring innovations that will help them in various ways and to bring transparency and accountability into the Union’s dealings as Students Leaders.

According to him, “I intend to be known as President who is accountable to the students, who empowers students in various ways, by imbibing entrepreneurial skills. Also, to be known as President who give fellow students the needed voice they need and to make sure that students feel like a major stakeholder in the University”.

On the issue of cultism and other social vices in the nation’s Ivory Towers, Mr. Adesipo noted that poverty and unemployment are the major contributory factors, which requires government’s urgent attention.

He stressed that about 70% of Nigerians are living in poverty according to the latest report of National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), charging his fellow colleagues not to be involved in any social vices.

The FUNAABSU President called on government, other well meaning Nigerians and stakeholders in the education sector to organize sensitization and re-orientation programme, as well as public lectures for the students populace from time to time, in order to let them know the dangers associated with social vices.

He gave kudos to the Executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for organizing a public lecture during the 31st Anniversary of the Association, during which Professor (Mrs.) Elizabeth Balogun, wife of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Oluwafemi Balogun spoke about prostitution and the way out.

In the area of Sports, Mr. Adesipo said his administration will ensure that students are more involved in sporting activities which will arouse their interests.
