Head, Webometric, Dr. Olusegun folorunso

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has again emerged the 2nd Best University in Nigeria and 29th in Africa, according to the January, 2013 edition of Webometric Ranking of World Universities.

FUNAAB, in the latest ranking, conducted by Cybermetrics Lab., a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de investigacoues (CSIC), Spain, came 2nd out of 120 tertiary institutions in Nigeria and 29th out of 814 higher educational institutions that were ranked in Africa.

In comparison with last year, when FUNAAB came 2nd but was 35th in Africa, this time around, it is not only second, but rose six points higher to clinch 29th in Africa, translating to an impressive improvement.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, topped the latest ranking in Nigeria and it was followed by FUNAAB, University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), University of Ibadan (UI), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in that order.

Other institutions which made the list of the first ten in Nigeria are, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, University of Benin, Benin and Covenant University, Ota.

The Head of the University’s Webometric Centre, Dr. Olusegun Folorunso, attributed the feat to the ingenuity and commitment of Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole- led Management, the dedication of the University Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC), his staff as well as the cooperation of the entire staff and students.

Dr. Folorunso assured that the University would not relent in its efforts to be the best in Nigeria.
