The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako has declared that there would be no winner no loser charging the players to see themselves as winners as the University Sports Directorate kicked-started its 2018 Inter-Collegiate Sports Festival and the Vice-Chancellor’s Cup competition.
The Vice-Chancellor admonished the students not to see the competition as a do-or-die affair, but rather, display the spirit of sportsmanship while competiting, admonishing that “You should not forget your education, which is your primary assignment”.
While inspecting the Indoor Game Centres, Professor Salako reinstated Management’s commitment to the state of facilities there in insuring that some of the infrastructures damaged by rainstorm are repaired.
Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Chairman, Sports Committee of the University, Professor Olufemi Sam-Wobo appealed to the University Management to come to the aid of the Sports Centre, especially in repairing the damaged infrastructures.
Professor Sam-Wobo also commended the University Management for supporting sporting activities when the need arises.
Football Matches were earlier played by some Colleges to herald the sporting activities, with the male teams of COLBIOS defeating their counterparts from COLFHEC by 2 goals to 1 through penalty shoot-out; COLENG boys locked horns with COLPHYS, with COLENG having the day with a lone goal, while COLPLANT team defeated COLVET with 4 goals to 0.
The female teams from the Colleges were also not left behind, as COLBIOS girls humbled their COLFHEC opponents with 3 goals to 2; COLPHYS and COLENG also settled for the same margin of 3 goals to 2 in favour of the COLPHYS Amazons, COLPLANT girls settled for the same margin like their male counterparts with COLVET by defeating the Veterinarian girls from COLVET by 4 un-replied goals.
The competition is billed to end by Wednesday, 20 June, 2018.
