Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has bounced back to the rank of Ten topmost Universities in the latest Webometrics ranking of the nation’s Ivory Towers released on Sunday, July 29, 2018.

Unlike the previous ranking released in January 2018 when FUNAAB conspicuously missed out on the list of the Ten Best Universities in the country, this time around, the institution staged a dramatic come back to Webometric “Hall of Fame” where it had been a “landlord” since 2014 when the ranking debuted.

Our own Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) put on a good fight and her spirited efforts painstakingly earned her the position of the 10th Best University in Nigeria, thus making the exalted and coveted list of the “Premier League” of Nigerian Universities.

It would be recalled that FUNAAB was rated 9th in July 2016, 8th in 2017 but couldn’t make the list of the first ten in January 2018.

Suffice to recall that twice in 2012 and 2013, FUNAAB was at the forefront as Overall 2nd Best University.

The media was agog and awash last Monday with publications of the latest Webometric Ranking that listed and celebrated the 70-year old Nigerian Premier University (U.I) as the best in Nigeria but rated 905 in the world.

The eight year old Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) emerged the Best Private University in the country and 2nd overall Best in the country but 2,287 in the world.

However, Covenant University, Ota came too close to retaining her usual second position by coming third while University of Nigeria, Nsukka was rated fourth.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife came fifth ahead of University of Port-Harcourt sixth and Federal University of Technology, Owerri, seventh.

University of Lagos and Ahmadu Bello University were rated eight and nine respectfully.

Checks revealed that since 2014 and every six month, an independently, objective, free and open scientific exercise is performed by Cybermetric Lab – a Spannish National Research Council, to provide reliable and useful information about performance of Universities all over the world on webpresence and impact.

The ranking is released every January and July.
