Members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ogun State Chapter have called for an improved welfare package for their members working in the University system.

Addressing the University Management, the Chairman of the Association, Dr. Ismail Lawal appealed to the Vice-Chancellor and the entire Management to look into the promotion and career structure of her Medical Practitioners.

This, according to Dr. Lawal is to ensure that the progress of its members working in the University system is at par their counterparts in the Government hospitals and establishments.

Dr. Lawal and his team also spoke on issues relating to the Salary Structures of Medical Doctors, the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and other entitlements due to Medical Doctors as against other University Staff’s Salary structure, such as the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS), Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) and the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor said that on the issue of Salary Scale in the University, the matter had since been settled by the Government.

Professor Salako also revealed that in every establishment including the Civil Service, there is an Establishment Order which is followed as a guiding principle adding that every organization has its ways of regulating managerial issues.

He assured that the University will set up mechanism that will allow the review of related issues and address matters of people who have stagnated.

Professor Salako reiterated that he has no reason to victimize anybody disclosing to the visitors that the University under his administration just recorded 95.5% success in the last promotion exercise.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that his administration is committed to staff welfare and will continue to do so.

In a related development, a Management of Globacom, Nigeria also visited the University seeking, a collaborative effort with FUNAAB on its Close-User Group and other Telecommunication services.

Speaking on behalf of Globacom, the Regional Head, Public Sector, (Sales), Mr. ‘Bola Onifade said that Globacom is ready to provide a seamless and affordable Close-User Group communication to the University Community along with E-Learning Telecoms to aid the delivery of virtual lectures and provide all FUNAAB’s telecoms need through optic fibre and radio.
