The University’s Foreign African Scholarship Scheme (UFASS) has commenced a new session, for the second edition of the programme.
The new session took-off with a remarkable increase in the admission of students, rising from 11 at debut to 34 students, in the current session.
The Scheme, which was approved by both the Senate and the Governing Council, as part of the internationalization efforts of the University, is aimed at equipping scholars from neighbouring African countries with the necessary skills needed for sustainable development and poverty reduction in their home countries.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with UNAAB Bulletin, the Coordinator of UFASS, Dr. James Daramola, disclosed that 18, out of the 22 scholars were already on ground, as at last Sunday, adding that the remaining students would soon join their colleagues.
He further revealed that, out of the 22 Students, 13 were admitted for the Skill Acquisition programme with three from Liberia, six from The Gambia and four from Sierra-Leone, while seven were admitted for Undergraduate Programme with three each, from Liberia and Sierra-Leone and one from The Gambia.
The remaining list was made up of one Postgraduate scholar each, from Liberia and Sierra-Leone.
According to Dr. Daramola, the Federal Scholarship Board, through the Federal Government’s Nigeria Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme, is also partnering with the University, in sponsoring 12 additional scholars on UFASS, for a four to five-year Undergraduate course, beginning from the 2011/2012 session.
