Members of the University community have been warned to be security conscious at all times, particularly in the wake of recent bombings and threats to lives, allegedly by members of the Boko Haram sect, in some parts of the country.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, cautioned that University officials should exercise great restraint in the use of official vehicles, especially, to the Northern part of the country, as government officials appear to be prime targets of the sect members.

The advice came on the heel of information sent to the Vice-Chancellor by a former student of the University, that the Provost of the Institute, where he is currently serving, Professor M.M Aliyu, was indentified through his official car while travelling to Maiduguri and allegedly killed by people suspected to belong to the dreaded sect.

The Vice-Chancellor has therefore observed that the recent development had warranted the need for community members to exercise great caution and be vigilant of suspicious movements and objects, even on campus.

The Vice-Chancellor asked that community members should endeavour to report sighting of suspicious movements and objects, to security personnel on campus, without delay.

It will be recalled that the University community members were recently enjoined to report suspicious movement on campus to any of the following numbers: 0812 637 5906, 0808 177 9022, 0808 177 9023 and 0815 703 3517.
