The newly-appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in charge of Ogun State, Mr. Sam Olumekun has expressed the gratitude of the Commission to the University Management for its immense contributions towards the success of the 2011 general elections.

Mr. Olumekun gave the commendation during a courtesy visit, to the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, who formally presented copies of the INEC’s legal and constitutional framework for the 2011 Election to the Vice-Chancellor noted that Professor Balogun exhibited the excellence which the University is known for, being the first Collation and Returning Officer in the country, to submit his results for the 2011 Presidential Election.

According to him, the act confirms the fact that, “you (FUNAAB) are people of distinction. We want to assure you that you remain in the forefront for the success that is today acclaimed over last year general elections, as far as Ogun State is concerned”.

Mr. Olumekun said he looked forward to the continued support of the University to the operations of INEC.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, who was represented at the occasion by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Felix Salako, assured the Commissioner of the University’s continued support to INEC.

Professor Salako said the accolades accorded the University stemmed from the transformational leadership of Professor Balogun, who has made efficiency and productivity the policy thrust of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor lauded the integrity of the leadership of INEC, under the Chairmanship of Professor Attahiru Jega, praying that God will continue to empower and lift the Commission to greater heights.
