The President and Chairman of Council, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Chartered, Chief (Dr.) Michael Olawale-Cole (FNIM), has expressed the determination of the Institute to establish a formal relationship with the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
Speaking during a courtesy visit on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole, in the the University’s Council Chamber, Dr. Olawale-Cole requested the approval for the mounting of the students’ scheme of NIM in FUNAAB to enable the students become Management Professionals at an early stage of their career development.
He disclosed that the Institute was equally fine tuning a specially-designed training programme for FUNAAB’s staff, adding that staff could be nominated to benefit from its regular human capacity development and learning programmes.
He reiterated that FUNAAB should enlist as a Corporate member of the Institute, saying that this will enable the University to enjoy benefits like discounted training programmes for its staff, Executive Recruitment, advertisement in the Institute’s website, Management-in-Nigeria Professional Journal and other various Institute’s brochure.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole expressed FUNAAB’s willingness to collaborate with any organisation that can move the University forward, noting that the University has a brand name of excellence.
He stated that last year about 22,000 candidates applied for admission into the University and this year it is over 35,000 candidates.
The Vice-Chancellor described the University as a training ground for job-creators, adding that the University has broadened its focus beyond agriculture, to include Management Sciences, which debuted last session.
According to Professor Oyewole, the University did not accidentally get to its present stage but due to the deliberate planning of human and financial resources by its former Vice-Chancellors, notable among them, the immediate past, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, whom he said, tripled the infrastructural base during his tenure.
